Robertson Joins the Fray: A Bumpy Ride at Bowman Gray
July 24, 2010
Winston-Salem, NC: An especially raucous night at Bowman Gray on Saturday started with a massive wreck in the first twenty yards. The Robertson team of cars were all able to avoid the fall out from the first wreck, but no one was lucky enough to walk away unscathed.
Ryan Robertson, the 24 year old driver of the #23 Timothy D. Welborn/Make-A-Wish Chevrolet drew 10th place to start in the first 20 lap race for the Sportsman Division, placing him firmly in the middle of the pack. After moving through the field to a 7th place position, he sustained a few bumps before being involved in an five car pile up on unlucky lap 13, which placed him in the back of the pack. He was able to finish the race in 15th place. Ryan began the next 20 lap race in 15th place and despite bumps and a race filled with wrecks; he was able to work through the field to 7th place for a solid finish. Now only 26 points out of the lead for the track championship, hopes are high for a Robertson comeback.
“It was a crazy night at the stadium this week; there were wrecks all over the field. In a situation like that it is important to depend on your spotters to stay out of trouble and to keep your cool when something does happen.” Robertson is sponsored by The Law Offices of Timothy D. Welborn, Make-A-Wish, and Carolina Wood Floors.
Bryant Robertson, driver of the #72 Carolina Wood Floors/WSSU Motorsport Management Chevrolet, had another bad draw this week pulling 25th place. However, he maintained a positive attitude and really worked his way through the field. Staying clear of the big accidents and only being the victim of a little bumping, Bryant was able to work his way up the field through 9 cars to a 16th place finish. Bryant began the second 20 lap race in 16th place and deftly maneuvered the countless wrecks to finish in 6th place, securing his spot for 11th place in points in the stadium series with only 4 weeks to go.
Scott Hall also raced for Robertson Racing at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night in the #36 Carolina Wood Floors/Make-A-Wish car. Pulling a 17th place start was unfortunate, but didn’t keep him down. Despite being involved in a wreck early in the 5th lap, he was still able to finish 12th. For the second Sportsman Race of the evening Scott was able to start in 3rd place, however, due to the nature of the evening, Scott was involved in two wrecks, which damaged his rear quarter panel. Still, he finished the race in 9th place.
“There is a lot to do to our team of race cars before next week” said team owner Mike Robertson “…still there are only four weeks of racing left at the stadium and we intend to put 110% into it.”
Ryan Robertson’s car will be on hand for the Make-A-Wish benefit festival to be held in the Lewisville Town Square on Saturday, July 31 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. The young driver also already has plans to run at North Wilkesboro Speedway later this year in the Short Track Shootout, and will make his third appearance at Martinsville Speedway for the Late Model 300 there.
